MALT POWDER vs. MALTED MILK POWDER

Today’s question for you is whether there is difference between Malted milk powder and malt powder? Do you know the answer? If no, then we will tell you that the answer is YES, they are definitely different from each other.   Malt Powder is made from wheat flour and another grain, usually barley. On the other hand, malted milk powder is malt powder with milk solids added to it.

Malt Powder

Malt powder provided by the best malt extract suppliers, Barley Malt suppliers - Mahalaxmi Malt Extract- is basically available in the form of diastatic malt powder and non-diastatic malt powder in which the former form contains active enzymes that help the starch to get converted into sugar which can accelerate the rising process and make products like bread rise more quickly. The latter one is  Non-diastatic malt that does not contain any active enzymes and is usually available as a syrup. It is only used for that distinctive malty flavour and deep caramel colour.

Going in depth in this product- Malt powder is made from barley grains which have been allowed to sprout, steeped and germinated to ultimately  help the grains to stimulate so that a certain type of enzyme can be released which ultimately breaks down its starches into sugars, creating a sweeter flavour. The grain is then dried and grounded to produce a fine powder.

Malt powder is something that can add a touch and flavour of natural sweetness to your bread, along with a browner crust and a glossy sheen, then malt powder could be that magic ingredient.

Malted Milk Powder

Malted milk powder is a fine light-yellow powder with a mellow, nutty flavour and a sweet and natural essence. The term "malt" refers to a grain (usually barley) that has been sprouted and quickly dried. Malt has many uses, including a base for beer, whiskey, and malt vinegar. Once the grain is ground up, it becomes the base of malted milk powder, which also contains wheat flour and powdered milk. Different brands often add other ingredients, including sugar, flavourings such as chocolate, food colouring, salt, and preservatives. Malted milk powder adds nutty sweetness and a pleasant crunch to candy, such as brittle and malted milk balls.

So, the next time you find yourself enjoying malted milk balls or your morning bagel, you will surely be able to understand the difference between both varieties of malt powder. Contact Mahalaxmi Malt Extract
